How Hardfacing Extends Equipment Life
Hardfacing is the deposition of a hard, wear-resistant weld layer onto a component's surface. Unlike replacing a part, hardfacing treats the specific zones where abrasion and impact actually occur — bucket heels, crusher surfaces, screw flights, mixer blades.
The consumable matters more than the process label. Different hardfacing alloys suit different wear mechanisms: chromium-carbide types for severe abrasion, martensitic types for abrasion with impact, work-hardening alloys where impact dominates. Selecting by habit instead of mechanism is the most common reason hardfacing disappoints.
Hardfacing can be applied to new components (prevention) or worn ones (reclamation). In reclamation, worn sections are first rebuilt, then hardfaced — restoring both geometry and wear resistance.
Through its relationship with Diffusion Engineers Ltd., SABAKT supplies specialized hardfacing consumables and applies them to components across cement, mining, steel and power applications in Saudi Arabia. [VERIFY WITH SABAKT — official partnership designation]
The commercial case is measured in cost per operating hour: a hardfaced component that lasts two to three times longer between interventions changes the maintenance budget, not just the component.
